October Fifth Tuesday Forum

October 31st is the final Fifth Tuesday Forum of 2006. Since it is also Halloween and Trick-or-Treat night for the kids, I have pushed back the starting time to 7:00 p.m. The forum will take place in rooms A&B of Oshkosh Public Library. Feel free to visit my Fifth Tuesday Forum webpage for information on past forums and to suggest discussion topics. I hope to see you there.

    Speeding In Oshkosh

We can only hope that at least ONE of the council members would take up the issue of speeding in Oshkosh for safety.
Which one of the council members would like to give a parent the news that a child was injured or killed because our police department failed to control spend in a school zone?

Should we not be alarmed when its reported that teachers and parents are manning the radar guns and are doing “police work” to try to control speed limits within school zones?

Ms Mattrox reported to the council that 2 squad cars and parents with radar guns were covering a school zone and motorists were still speeding. Did the officers issue tickets?

Someone within this council needs to step up the plate. The OPD is NOT doing the job we are paying them to do. As a council YOU need to REQUIRE that the ordinances of the city be enforced. Those ordinances include posted speed limits throughout the city.

Get the message to our police chief that SPEEDING in OSHKOSH WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!
Start with the school zones and make this should be a SAFETY PRIORITY.

If we have sufficient officers to monitor and enforce the smoking signs at the transit center; shouldn’t we have enough officers to enforce speed limits within a SCHOOL Zone?

  • remember that children doen't magically disapear once the school zone ends, you have to enforce speed limits EQUALLY throughout the city

also that speeding is a safety issue for ALL ped's and bikers, not just children
