Primary election
Citizens of Oshkosh go to the polls on Tuesday to cast votes for their Common Council (and School Board and State Supreme Court). This is the first of two opportunities to vote - the general election is April 3rd. Citizens can vote for up to three council members and two school board members and only one justice. Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. To find out where to vote and/or view election night results, please visit the county clerk's website.
I am running for re-election to the council to build upon the last two years of solid performance and proven results.
I have proven to be an effective communicator and listener. I am the only Oshkosh elected person to host an interactive blog, website and listening sessions (nine Fifth Tuesday Forums).
I am progressive, yet practical. I am not afraid to stand up and voice my support or concerns; I am willing to take a stand.
Finally, I have demonstrated the ability to be a trusted, experienced leader. I understand that serving on the council is not always about being "for" or "against" something or being a "yes" or "no" vote. Being a council member is about building consensus, listening to all sides of an issue and working toward the common good. I will continue to work toward a strong, proud future, and I ask you to join me in creating a shared vision for the city of Oshkosh.
I appreciate the support and encouragement I've received during the campaign. It truly has been an honor for me to serve on your Oshkosh Common Council, and I ask for your vote on Tuesday, February 20th.

We visit and stay at an Oshkosh hotel several times a year for 5-7 days each time. Appleton is not that far away and has a lot more to offer, like shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Perhaps Oshkosh should find another way to increase a tax for someone's pet project, instead of finding ways to drive visitors to nearby cities. That 2% increase won't seem like such a great idea when you end up losing regular visitors.

"Bain and King also received $200 contributions each from AFSCME’s Wisconsin PEOPLE (Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality) Conference."
AFSCME is a city union organization. Bain and King as council members,would have voting control over and influence approving or disapproving wages and benefits. Hummm.

Good job Bryan.
It appears in order to win a local council seat in Oshkosh you have to have the backing of the union employees. Something you had and Monte didn't.

I respectfully disagree with your statement. Tony and Meredith did not receive the AFSCME PEOPLE Conference endorsement, and they finished second and third, respectively. And, AFSCME was not involved two years ago when I was first elected.
I am happy and honored to have the endorsement of all of the citizens of Oshkosh who voted for me yesterday.

Hey Bryan,
It’s great you replied to that one comment. I would really think it’s a lousy deal if in order to get elected in this town you had to pledge allegiance to the city unions. That would be just be random junk! Say on top of stuff man, fight the good fight and do what’s best for the average guy paying taxes and you’ll be elected Mayor next time around.

Something else Bain had and Monte didn't, 8:02, was the ability to think before speaking/acting. Bain is thoughtful in his approach and dealigns with issues. Monte was like a bull in a china shop and it didn't play well with voters.

Actaully, Monte had the endorsement of the Fox Valley UAW, so he did have union support. He just squandered it by being foolish in his actions and boorish in his demeanor. Claiming to listen and actually listening to all sides are two different things- I congratulate Bryan on his win. He is what a city council candidate SHOULD be.

2% increase in room taxes should be voted DOWN.
Show the taxpayers where you have been spending the moneys since the last request for an increase.
How many times do they have to move the offices and have more updates to squander the funds?
The Visitors and Convention Bureau needs to live within a budget just like other city departments.
How much is the Convention Center debt down since the last increase?
there budget is probably sufffered with the loss of rooms.
We will end up losing regular visitors to nearby Appleton.

The Convention Center needs to be undated no one disputes that.
HOWEVER, why was it allowed to deteriorate to this point? Why does the city have such a POOR history of upkeep and maintenance with city owned properties?
I believe when the visitors bureau was established the room tax was put in place to pay the staff and the debt service on the Convention Center as well as upkeep of the center.
What part of these dollars have actually gone to the updates per agreement?
If we want to promote the downtown why not keep their offices downtown?
Why have the offices of the OVC been moved so often??
How many $$ has the city paid to update the offices each time they chose to move?
Talk about city dollars & accountability.
What happens if/when the county adds on a 1/2% sales tax as proposed the past 2 years? Eventually that tax will pass.
This is but another carrot dangling in front of councilors looking for someone else to pay the city bills. SMELLS LIKE A GARBAGE TAX
The idea of “socking it” to the tourists will only hinder Oshkosh more.
Having the highest room tax in the State OF WI will paint a portrait of GREED for the City of Oshkosh.
If we suddenly want to do what Appleton does; Let’s get the attractions FIRST, make Oshkosh that destination point. If we attract more visitors we will get the added $$ and will NOT have to raise the room tax.
IF the additional room tax is allowed it should ALL go to the Convention Center; first to pay off the debt second for update and future maintenance.
NOT FOR SOMEONE"S PET PROJECT!
