Rohloff Named City Manager

The council today voted unanimously to appoint Mark Rohloff, currently the Town Administrator of Grand Chute, the next Oshkosh city manager. Congratulations Mark!

It was the strong consensus of the council that Mark was the best of the best. Karl Nollenberger, Vice President of the PAR Group, the executive search firm hired to coordinate the search process, did an extraordinary job bringing us top notch, quality candidates. All five finalists are highly qualified city manager candidates, and I thank every one of them for expressing an interest in Oshkosh. I believe the strong interest generated in the city manager position bodes well for the city of Oshkosh.

From my perspective, Mark has the qualities and attributes necessary to lead Oshkosh forward; he is the right guy at the right time. His education, experience and enthusiasm are exactly what Oshkosh needs. I look forward to working with Mark, and for Mark to start working with the staff, council and citizens of Oshkosh. Mark officially will start as city manager on August 4th.

One final note, I want to thank the approximately 30 citizens who showed up today for the citizen forum. I appreciate your interest in the process, and valued hearing your opinions. I also want to thank city staff for their assistance, especially Sue Brinkman from Administrative Services.

  • Good CHOICE but only IF councilors
and the local media are wise enough to ALLOW Mr. Rohloff to do the job he was hired to do.

    NO more micro-management!

  • Brian,
Thank you to the council for giving us the opportunity to meet all the candidates and offer feedback before you made the final decision.

    Congratulations and welcome Mr. Rohloff!

  • Do we have to wait for the New Manager to take charge or can the council request some updates?

Two issues of concern that seem to be neglected by the Parks Department
Little Oshkosh and Follow-up for changes at SawDust Days.

Last summer citizens and councilors brought to light numerous problems surrounding the teenagers using Little Oshkosh and intimidating the youngsters for whom this park was designed.
I would have thought with the numbers of concerns brought to light the parks department would have addressed the issues immediately.
Certainly they should have been address over the winter months and a plan put in place before the playground opening for this new season. Why such a delay?

Part of yesterday’s park board meeting centered on language for a sign.
Board Members mentioned getting the police staff involved.
These are the same things discussed last year when no action was taken to solve the problems.
Here we are one year later; a full year of inactivity signals to me some serious ineffective supervision within the Parks Division.
It shouldn’t take a year to drum our some type of sign to help curtail inappropriate actions that could possibly be dangerous to the youngsters this park was designed to serve.

    SawDust Days
In February, the Mayor, the Parks board, neighbors and citizens held a meeting to discuss solutions for Problems during the Saw Dust Days event. Since this event will take place in less than a month; can we get a progress report or can someone share the steps put in place to minimize the problems in this area.

Has the city ever put together the “events committee” to address the various problems created within our city?

    Thank You

  • June 10 comments on just two areas that further add substance to the preception that some of our Department Heads and Supervisors need to face heavy handed evaluation. Too many our our highly paid department heads seem to live in their little silos, and seem to be attempting to build empires unto themselves. Our newly hired Manager should take a very deliberate view of all staff and cut bait on some of these people.
When we pay these people as much as we do, we should have an expection of excellence at all times, in every instance.
