President Bush authorized leak

There are numerous reports from Reuters, the Associated Press and the New York Sun that grand jury testimony given by former vice-presidential aide 'Scooter' Libby indicated both President Bush and Vice President Cheney authorized Libby to release sensitive intelligence information.

According to the documents from the special prosecutor, this disclosure "occurred only after the vice president advised [Libby] that the president specifically had authorized [Libby] to disclose certain information in the National Intelligence Estimate."

This new information begs the question: What role did this release of sensitive information play, whether directly or indirectly, in the disclosure of the CIA identity of Valerie Plame? This new information also indicates the need for further investigations into the role the president and vice president had in leaking sensitive information, and whether or not the law was violated. Will Congress act? Will the American people demand they act? Will President Bush follow through?
