Roessler Not Running
State Senator Carol Roessler (R-Oshkosh) announced today that she will not seek a 7th Senate term. I join State Representative Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) in thanking Senator Roessler for her years of service. Even though we disagreed on many issues, she remained professional, friendly and a helpful public servant.
Now the question becomes, "who will run?" We already know of one candidate, Council Member King, but I am sure this vacancy will bring out numerous additional candidates, especially Republicans. Any thoughts???

UPDATE: According to the Oshkosh Northwestern, Winnebago County Sheriff Michael Brooks and Fond du Lac City Councilor Tim Lakin have indicated they will seek the Republican nomination. State Rep. John Townsend (R-Fond du Lac) has not ruled out running for the seat.

There will soon be a Sheriff in the race. His name is Mike Brooks and he's a Republican.
There will be, at least, two more Republicans running so the September primary will be a full house on the Republican ticket.

Ms. King's Council record has been, in my opinion, unremarkable - one of the four "Chamber" candidates. During her campaign, when specifically asked, she made mention of how she planned to make waves in helping the elderly. Such has not even surfaced during her short term on the Council. While I have found Roessler to be a disappointment over the last several years she did outdo herself when it came to seniors. Carol began her career, pre-politics by establishing many helpful outlets for seniors, disabled and low income, grassroots ADVOCAP worker. Ms. King will not get my vote and I would surmise the senior vote in large numbers. Any campaign schmoozing is easily recognized. Seniors are not the "brain dead" folks young people may stereotype them as. Remember it's now being joined by the "baby boomers", most enlighted. I hope more candidates surface be they Democrats or Republicans. Simply running to increase the Dem. count is not a reason.
