  • I just watched the replay of the Memorial Day parade on the TV and whoever is the director of South Park has done an awesome job. Those kids and that band are amazing. I think they were the best in the whole parade. Congrats South Park!

  • I was reading the paper today and saw the article on the water rate increases. I thought to myself, wow thats a big increase. Then later on, while I was at the car wash, the guy there said that car washes and coin laundrys were going to be hurting if that change went through so its not only me thats going to pay more in my own water rates, but I'll pay more for things like car washes too.

Why do we need such a big increase anyhow? The paper said because of labor costs. What the heck! I'm making less now than I was making 5 years ago an so are alot of my friends. Why do the water department staff need to make so much money it cause this HUGE increase!?!?!

I'm ticked off at this and I'll be watching who supports this increase at the council meeting!

Please don't support this big increase Bryan.

  • The liquor license proposal is one of the most ridiculous ones yet from these naysayers. They push for enforcement and being the long arm of the law yet they'll take away the power behind the ordinance with this amendment.
Let the landlord and his tenants work out their own problems and stay the hell out of business issues we don't belong in gentlemen.
While we can sympathize with the businesses; government needs to STAY OUT of these landlord and tenant issues!
The rest of the council needs to defeat this right out of the shoot!

  • Vote NO on this water increase,
that's more than a butterburger per week.
    Citizens can't afford it!!!

  • Random thoughts regarding the River Mills sidewalk discussion last night:

    - We seem to have our own little “Paris Hilton entitlement issues” faction on the eastern banks of the Fox River right here in Oshkosh.
    - Tony Palmeri made a better case than Jess King who is a professional lawyer. If I were in court, I’d want Tony to represent me. He is an AWESOME council member!
    - Frank Tower is a “stand-up” guy, who seems to be an independent thinker, not controlled by any special interests.
    - Bryan Bain is…well let’s just say we saw a “chink” in his armor last night. My respect for him took a significant dip.
    - Burk and Dennis are polar opposites. Point-CounterPoint.
    - Paul took a ton of personal assaults and remained calm and professional.
    - The 4-3 vote placed sidewalks in River Mill…and that was the correct decision.

  • Those most likely to vote for the water rate increase are both Towers and Jessica King. Bryan Bain is a possible yes as well. The reason I was given for the rate increase, by a Council member, was due to the City not making increases more often and thus the "sticker shock". It does seem this is done on other things as well; in particular roads left ignored for so long that the cost to property owners, when roads are done, is considerably higher. This is due to inflation and more repair is needed. Well, I think many citizens can find other examples as well.

Mr. Palmeri is indeed showing us what he promised! Mr. Bain seems undecisive this time around; a bit of waffling as well as constituant input withdrawal. Hope this can turn around as Bryan was voted for based on his one on one with the citizenry.

  • Bryan needs to step up his game.

In the previous council, he was clearly a visionary and a "posterchild" for the new council member.

This council has some outstanding members. Tony, Frank and Jess are well positioned to take some of the limelight Bryan had received in the earlier term.

If he continues to waffle and show bias towards special interests, he will undoubtedly loose some credibility.

  • Like it or not I don't think the Council has much of a choice nor do the citizens of Oshkosh. We will have to pay more for water in the future.

As the city manager pointed out we do have deteriorating Infrastructure in many areas of the city.

I would like the see the council implement a way to give citizens a break on the sewer bills in the summer time.

  • Bryan could care less about the "limelight".
I think he made some good points regarding the trail systems and the water issue.
He certainly did his "homework" on the liquor license problems. Pioneer /vs the Granary.

Just because he changed his stand on the sidewalk issue means he was looking at a broader picture.
He was showing some visionary work
beyond the scope of River Mill.

Maybe sidewalks on one side and a bike/ped lane would have been a nice compromise? We'll never know.

  • 4:00 PM, don't be a pinhead.

Everyone in a public elected position needs to be in the limelight. Public approval and positive reaction equals re-election. (ie: Bain Limelight attempt = 5th Tuesday forum)

Bain is not the only "golden-boy" anymore. The last council was filled with a group that was not flamboyant, some words that would describe many of them would be dull, boring, predictable.

Bain now has a much younger crowd of mover-and-shaker wannabes that will certainly challenge him to continue to step-up if he desires to remain in a leadership position on the council.

On another note, Tony is possibly the best new blood this council has seen in quite some time. I think we have an excellent mix of members now. Future discussion and interaction should be exciting.

  • It is my understanding the council will be looking at increasing sewer rates at the next council meeting.
First water rates by 17% now the sewer bills as well???
I don't object to paying for the additional water I use in the summer months.
I DO object to paying the extra sewer charge.
This water does not go through the sewerage system!
We shouldn't have to have special meters installed. It shouldn't take a rocket man to figure out that the increased water usage does NOt mean increaased sewage use.
It might be nice to have the city recognize the fact that in the summer time the water used for watering the yards, washing cars or filling kiddie pools should NOT be subjected to sewer charges.

Bryan perhaps the city should consider waiveing the extra sewer charge in the summer??
