Free Movies at the Park

interGen has just announced this year's "Free Movies at the Park" schedule. The movies will be shown Friday nights at 9:00 p.m. in Opera House Square, and are free to the public. The first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, corresponds with Harry Potter's Oshkosh Main Street Magic. The full schedule is:

July 20th: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
July 27th: Ferris Bueller's Day Off (one of my all-time favorites)
August 3rd: Shrek 2
August 10th: Ever After
August 17th: The Wedding Singer
August 24th: The Wizard of Oz

Thank you interGen, the Grand and the BID for sponsoring this wonderful community event.

  • The progressives aren't doing so well it seems.

The 100 block, hotel/convention center are bankrupt. The Leach is getting mixed reviews mostly because of lack of good programing, The Waterfront project is under fire and the developers have not had success in locating quality developments other than an office building.

Did our former Mayor Jon Dell’Antonia (River Mill Resident) help or hurt Oshkosh by his support of all these "progressive" Oshkosh taxpayer funded projects?

The only real success is the Water Park.

I think Paul Esslinger was a primary advocate for the water park.

    OK lets take stock...

    Paul Esslinger Oshkosh taxpayer advocate.

I'd say Paul is leading this race by quite a margin.

I support Paul, Dennis, Tony, Frank and on many occasions Bryan.

  • The city administration has shown it has very little expertise in the process of development.

The city administration should back away and let the private sector proceed it there is a need.

So far some very expensive mistakes have been made, mistakes we Oshkosh homeowners and taxpayers will have to pay for.

I say it's time for some accountability with our City Administration.

In the private sector jobs would be lost if they produced the poor performance we have in our city planning Department.

Who's job should be held accountable at City Hall?

  • The water park is NOT a success financially. And Esslinger merely supported the project. He really didn't spearhead it at all as he gave people the impression he did at the time.

If you think it's a success because there's a steady crowd of people, then the Leach is a success too, as are the Grand and many other venues in town. You can't have it both ways. If you define success by one standard, other venues and their success or failure must be judged by the same.

  • The Leach and Grand were publicly identified as profit generators. The waterpark was never discussed as anything more than a quality of life element. There were/are no expectations of the waterpark turning a profit. Thanks in part to Paul Esslingers leadership, our children have a wonderful place to enjoy the summer. Thanks Paul and all of those who made Pollack Water Park happen!
